In the 10th anniversary of the Riga-Valmiera 107 km charity run, the winners were Toms Komass from Jelgava (7:30:49) and Diana Daaviza from Vienna (8:14:58) former from Salacgriva.
Toms Komass won for the fourth time in a row, improving his previous course record by more than 10 minutes. In the Latvian Championship 100 km, the Jelgava native took home the gold medal, showing the second best result of all time (7:01:54), falling behind national record holder Aleksadrs Prokopcuks (6:50:36) by 11 minutes in the distance.
Diana Dzaviza broke Vita Devjatnikova’s course record (9:09:45) by less than an hour in the 107 km distance. In turn, she beat her own Latvian record for 100 km (7:53:16) by eight minutes (7:44:50). However, the record will not be officially recognized, because the start and finish of the Riga-Valmiera 107 km race are too far apart to comply with international athletics regulations.
Only her student Olegs Gurejevs (7:54:28) ran the distance faster than the new record holder, taking silver. Kristaps Cehovics (8:18:08) won the bronze medal, three minutes behind the faster woman. In total, 180 runners reached the finish line in charity run, supporting guardian-angel Regnars Berzins-Krumins, for whose rehabilitation at the POGA center, 10,296.25 euros were collected.
